Technology Experts Were at Agritechnica to Showcase Precision Farming Products

By Bernhard Schmitz

AGCO’s new technology strategy, FuseTM Technologies, was a major component of AGCO’s presence recently at Agritechnica, the world’s largest exhibition of agricultural machinery and equipment. Held in Hanover, Germany, from November 12-16, 2013, the show attracted 450,000 visitors from across the globe.

Fuse Interactive Smart Farm

The Fuse Technologies interactive smart farm operated on a video game platform and showed how Fuse products help growers in each phase of the crop cycle.

Show attendees could experience Fuse products and learn more about the strategy in several ways. The Fuse booth was located at the center of the AGCO floor plan, where visitors could interact with touch screen stations to learn about the Fuse connected strategy.

The Fuse booth also included the interactive smart farm display that showed how Fuse Technologies helps growers through each phase of the crop cycle. Eric Hansotia, Senior Vice President of Global Harvesting and ATS, and Helmut Endres, Senior Vice President of Engineering Worldwide both visited the Fuse booth and interacted with the Fuse smart farm screen.

After learning about what Fuse is and how it helps growers, visitors could venture out to each brand area—Challenger, Fendt, GSI, Massey Ferguson and Valtra, as well as Fella—which featured technology stands staffed with experts ready to answer attendees’ precision farming questions.

Show attendees could interact with each brand’s precision farming products, especially some of the new products that made their debut at the show such as VarioGuide Light and the latest AgCommandTM integrations.

Additionally, AGCO’s own Matt Rushing, Vice President of Product Management, Advanced Technology Solutions (ATS) and Electronics Functional Group, was on-hand at the Massey Ferguson stand to explain the Fuse Technologies strategy: click here to see the video.

Regional Launch of Global Fuse Technologies Strategy Well-Received in Spain.

The 9th European Conference on Precision Agriculture held in Spain set the perfect stage for the EAME (Europe, Africa and Middle East) regional launch of AGCO’s new global precision farming initiative, Fuse™ Technologies.

The mid-July conference took place in Lleida, Catalonia under the auspices of the International Society of Precision Agriculture (ISPA) and the Universitat de Lleida (UdL).

Matt Rushing, AGCO Vice President of Product Management, Advanced Technology Solutions (ATS) and Electronics Functional Group presented the new global technology strategy at the conference: “Fuse™ Technologies will encompass all of AGCO’s core product brands, enable a deeper integration with our technology suppliers, and impact all stages of the farming life cycle from enterprise planning, planting, and seed growth to application, harvesting and grain storage.”

ECPA field demonstration showcases VarioGuide technology on a Fendt 939 tractor

ECPA field demonstration showcases VarioGuide technology on a Fendt 939 tractor

The Fuse strategy presentation was well received by the audience. ECPA participants appreciated the concept of an open approach – that data from one information system can be used on various systems. The AGCO team and conference participants had good discussions at the AGCO Fuse stand about the current product offerings and the strategy to bring the different technology solutions closer together.

During the field demonstration at ECPA the performance of AGCO’s technology offering was demonstrated on the Fendt 939 using the Varioterminal 10.4. The VarioGuide™ system showed the high accuracy that can be achieved when the VariotronicTI automatic function is used. In addition to accuracy, a high operator comfort is guaranteed.

Fuse Technologies encompasses current products like the one demonstrated at ECPA, and will include all future technology products and services. To learn more about our specific on and off board technologies and how Fuse supports farmers throughout the entire life cycle of farming, click here.

Fendt Hosts DLG Expert Committee

Back in March, the DLG (Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft or German Agricultural Society) Committee for Work Management and Process Technology convened at Fendt in Marktoberdorf, Germany. Attendees took advantage of the opportunity to discuss current issues in the field of electronics in agricultural equipment with Fendt experts.

Dr. Bernhard Schmitz from Fendt Product Marketing and responsible for the area of electronics, gave the guests a detailed presentation of the new electronics concept, the Fendt Variotronic. He pointed out that a neutral test performed by the trade magazine top agrar has proven that the new electronics concept and, in particular, the VarioGuide automatic steering system live up to the typically high Fendt standards.DLG Expert Committee visits Fendt factory

In his lecture “Experience Variotronic”, Rainer Vogt from the Fendt Sales Promotion team focused on the user-friendly menus together with the flat menu structure and practical touch technology. The flat menu hierarchy is evident in the small number of terminal pages, despite a greater number of functions. In the Fendt Variotronic, the tractor controls, ISO bus implement control, VarioGuide automatic steering and VarioDoc documentation have been consolidated in the terminal and can all be operated using the same operating logic.

Rainer Hofmann, Head of Fendt Electronics Development, gave a lecture in his function as Chairman of the AEF, an international, manufacturer-independent platform for electronics in agricultural equipment. Dr. Heribert Reiter, Managing Director Research and Development, reported about current issues at Fendt and made clear that compliance with legal emissions standards is a great challenge for the entire industry and demands a good deal of time and money. Roland Schmidt, Fendt Marketing Director, presented the Fendt product portfolio in detail and focused on the topic of efficiency.

The DLG committee for Work Management and Process Technology, comprised of practicing farmers and representatives from science, consultation services and industry, meets twice a year to discuss current issues in business management.
