AGCO’s New Zealand Dealers gathered recently in Addington, Christchurch, for comprehensive training in Advanced Technology Solutions (ATS) including System 110 Guidance, System 150 and System 350 Auto steering and AGCO’s telemetry system, Agcommand.
AGCO’s extensive dealer network gives farmers access to the resources and benefits of these new and emerging agricultural products. Dealer training empowers dealers with the knowledge and expertise needed to provide customers with high end precision farming solutions and the know how to suit progressive farmers. AGCO’s precision farming technologies enable farmers and contractors to optimise their operations, reduce input costs and achieve greater efficiency and profitability.
In New Zealand, the highly professional dealer group attending the training included dealer principals, sales staff and technical support staff. All were given the opportunity to evaluate the systems on display in real time with a mix of Valtra, Fendt and Massey Ferguson tractors equipped with AGCO’s technology products.
Taking an active role in enhancing dealers’ knowledge base, AGCO Australia’s ATS Product Manager, Jeremy Duniam, was pleased with the training that included classroom style learning as well as practical demonstrations of the products.
“The dealer training was extremely productive and was received very well by all participating. It is always rewarding to see dealer staff remain behind after the day sessions have finished to spend more time getting familiar with the systems. The dealer network in New Zealand is very professional in their approach. Their knowledge of ATS solutions will equip New Zealand farmers with innovative technology solutions, which is the future of farming.” Jeremy said.

Do you ever have issues with your Bluetooth head set not getting the best reception, even though your phone is in your pocket?!? Have you ever had your smart phone run out of batteries before your day is over? Are you worried about other people accessing information you are transmitting between your devices via Bluetooth or Wifi? Below you will find Pros and Cons of the two different ways for devices to communicate with each other.
For wireless machine to machine communication – Bluetooth is the easiest and least expensive way for seamless communication. Bluetooth is secure as you have to “pair” the devices before they can communicate with each other. Bluetooth also takes up less energy to connect, thus saving a little more battery life on your smartphone. It is restrictive in distance, 10 meters, which is great for driving your pick up down the road, but what about combines communicating with each other in the field? Bluetooth has been around since 1994 and recently has been making leaps in bounds for stronger wireless communication.
Wireless Fidelity a.k.a Wi-Fi is available at almost every street corner, rural café, and truck repair shop. Does Wi-Fi have a chance in taking over what Bluetooth has been building on for almost 20 years? Wi-Fi was introduced 3 years before Bluetooth, but began with different use cases. Wi-Fi is more complex than Bluetooth and requires configuration of hardware and software, Wi-Fi will also soak up more of your precious battery life. Both communicate over a 2.4 GHz frequency level; Wi-Fi is more expensive but can also communicate of distances up to 100 meters. Have you thought of using Wi-Fi for a connection between two devices, but not for the internet? With a few extra steps, this could be the answer to your problems of needing a longer distance base for wireless communication.
Can you see yourself wanting your machines in the field to communicate with each other? Would you prefer to use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi? WHY?!?
The System 350 is the latest auto-steer technology available through the AGCO North American dealer network. The System 350 features a new X30 all-in-one control console that gives operators an entirely new level of precision control, dependability, flexibility and ease of use. It provides a wealth of control and display options that allow the operator to easily monitor machine activity at a glance to help reduce expensive swath overlap and easily manage field-by-field information for increased productivity and efficiency. An easy-to-use icon-based setup screen on the X30 console allows the operator to configure the system to the specific needs of the job, rather than being restricted by preset parameters.
The System 350 Automatic Steering includes boundary and U-turn recognition features that allow operators to easily complete turns and lock onto the next swath. The System’s guidance dashboard provides on-screen indicators for area covered, speed, swath number and satellite information while it builds a color coverage map that the operator can use to review which areas have been covered.
• 12.1-inch multi-touch screen features crisp, high-resolution graphics that are easy to see even in bright sunlight
• RTK Snap-in Module plugs into the System 350 AGI-3 receiver for centimeter (RTK) accuracy
• Snap-in module includes an internal 915 MHz radio for receiving data from a Topcon HiPer AG radio base station or a US GSM cellular modem
• Capable of using Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) correction via cellular data link as an alternative to RTK correction
• Enhanced data management features with multiple input and output options to compile and store valuable field-by-field information
• Automatic coverage maps track the area covered by the vehicle so producers can easily identify missed areas or areas of overlap
• Moves easily from one vehicle to the next
• Available through AGCO’s North American dealer network
Not more than a decade ago, farmers were just warming up to the idea of hydraulic and electric guidance to steer their tractors, implements and combines in a consistent, straight line. Ag dealers were finding that “they require precision ag specialist to keep up with the new developments and best serve their customers” says Chad Elmore, managing editor of Farm Equipment. Here at AGCO, our dealers are dedicated to serving your technology needs.
Support after the sale is a crucial part of the equation; AGCO is proud to help serve you, the customer, at your earliest convenience. Elmore continues to say, “today, precision farming techniques are accepted by many in the ag industry and products that make up that segment are being updated continuously.” AGCO Advanced Technology Solutions is constantly working to provide our customers with cutting edge technology to save you money and more importantly, time, so you can spend time with the ones you love – not just the tractor you love!
Dave Swain, Technology Marketing Specialist – HHP Tractors says, “More farmers are running multiple machines in different areas and they need to know what’s going on with each piece of equipment. Telematics will play a big role in agriculture. There’s a lot of data being generated by machines that can be used by the farm operator to make decisions ranging from equipment stylization to maintenance.”
Our AgCommand telematics service monitors engine and transmission status, machine location, combine operation information along with other data. The user can see the information on their computer through the internet or receive SMS messages via cell phone.
AGCO has many different telemetry and guidance products to help you become more efficient in your farming tactics. Please visit your local dealer or our website at www.AGCOTechnologies.com to see how we can help you increase your margins and spend more time with your loved ones!
