What is Biomass?

Simply put: Biomass is organic material that can be processed into electricity, heat and fuel. It’s the oldest fuel known to man.

AGCO makes a variety of equipment that harvests ag wastes and/or crops that create a sustainable energy source.

Why does biomass matter to me?

The market for renewable energy projects is poised to expand exponentially — and likewise, biomass harvesting practices and equipment are advancing at an exhilarating pace.

According to U.N. estimates, the world’s population will reach 8 billion in 2024. To provide the recommended amount of food for a population of that size, the world’s farmers must increase productivity and efficiency while preserving the environment that allows crops to grow. Ever increasing yields will mean increasing waste such as corn stover. To continue to meet this growing need for food will require management of this waste; requiring biomass solutions based on of the use of cutting edge farming equipment and technology. This will also be an opportunity for our farmers.

Tripling the use of biomass for energy in the U.S. alone could provide as much as$20 billionin new income for farmers and rural communities.

There is enough biomass in the U.S. to produce:
