Survey: Contractors Like to Drive Fendt

40 percent of contractors in Germany drive a Fendt tractor. In second place on the list of favourites is John Deere, followed by Case-IH, Deutz and New Holland.

Fendt: The most popular brand amongst contractors in Germany

More than 40 percent (%) of German contractors worked with a Fendt tractor in their businesses in 2013. In the previous year, Fendt was also the most widely used brand amongst German contractors.

The German tractor brand Fendt (40.4 percent) and the US brand John Deere (18.1 percent) are most frequently cited as the first, second or third preferred brand in German contracting enterprises. The brands Case-IH, Deutz and New Holland follow in the third to fifth places. These results correspond to those of the last market survey from 2012. Nearly two of ten contractors want to invest in a new or used tractor this year. The greatest interest here was in the brands Fendt (44.4 %) and John Deere (27.8 %).

A further result of the survey: The more tractors that are already present in a contracting business, the higher the percentage of investment plans for a new or used tractor. Contractors with 20 or more tractors have the most plans to invest. Of these, 42.9 percent want to buy a new tractor.

These figures originate from the LohnunternehmerScanner 2013/14 survey, which was carried out by the AgriDirect Deutschland GmbH from December 2013 up to and including January 2014. The business operations and future plans of 2,650 contractors were surveyed for this market scanner.

Fendt at Agritechnica 2013 – Top Atmosphere, Top Customers, Top Success

Once again, the Agritechnica 2013 is an exhibition that sets new records. On 420,000 square metres, the entire industry presented itself to some 450,000 visitors to the world’s leading agricultural equipment and machinery exhibition. The exhibition not only set a new record in terms of the number of visitors, but also for exhibitors as well as in its internationality. For the first time, all 27 exhibition halls were occupied with 2,900 exhibitors from 47 countries. The exhibition was therefore fully booked. And accordingly there were crowds of visitors at the Fendt stand in Hall 9, where the premium brand and trend-setter in agricultural engineering presented its new innovations in the areas of tractors, combines and balers.

“There was a very positive atmosphere here at our stand. The agricultural industry is currently in a stable economic environment, so that we were able to conduct excellent, concrete talks here with our customers and dealers,” summed up Peter-Josef Paffen, Vice President and Chairman of the AGCO/Fendt Management Board. This impression is substantiated by the DLG exhibitor survey. Seventy percent of the farming and forestry enterprises said they plan to invest in the next two years. “We already reached our sales target of 18,000 tractors before the Agritechnica. Here at the exhibition we are already talking about orders for the upcoming year. Thanks to our new factory, we are ready to deliver and also aim to attain these high sales figures in 2014. The Agritechnica has given us the right impetus and tailwind for this,” said Paffen.

Fendt presented its complete line-up – from the 200 V/F/P specialty tractor range with 70 hp to the 939 Vario with 390 hp – on 2,550 square metres within the 7,200-square metre AGCO stand in Hanover. There was an especially high interest in the innovations. Under the motto “Experience Fendt. Making things happen.”, Fendt presented new high-horsepower machines in all areas this year. The new 800 and 900 Vario high-horsepower tractors convinced visitors with a number of new technical innovations, such as the integral tyre pressure regulation system VarioGrip. Fendt also presented the new combines from the Fendt X-Series with hybrid technology and the most powerful Fendt of all times – the Fendt Katana 85 forage harvester with 850 hp. “The demand for Fendt harvesting machinery is climbing noticeably. Today we also offer high-quality products in this area,” commented Paffen. The topic of precision farming was presented at both the Variotronic and the AGCO Fuse stands. In this area, Fendt now also offers SectionControl and the AGCOMMAND telemetry system. On the basis of the Fendt X Concept, visitors were able to get a first impression of the direction development in agricultural engineering will take regarding electrical drives for tractors.

Innovative technology is rewarded with awards. Fendt received the silver medal from the DLG for its new flat-sealing hydraulic coupling system. The “Machine of the Year” was awarded to the Fendt 516 Vario for tractors and the new 9490X for combines. Fendt also received the official DLG test mark for the VarioGuide RTK automated steering. “Of course, it is a great pleasure to reap awards. However, it is important to us that we bring innovations onto the market that provide real benefits for our customers and take all of their requirements for practical use into consideration. The new hydraulic coupling system is an excellent example for this, because it enables farms to convert to modern hydraulic systems flexibly, step by step, and there are no oil leaks during handling,” added the Chairman of the AGCO/Fendt Management Board.

At the Agritechnica, AGCO/Fendt finds the ideal environment to present its new technologies. “The Agritechnica is an innovation driver and provider of ideas for global agriculture and has impressively demonstrated the growing worldwide significance of farming and agricultural engineering,” explained Dr. Reinhard Grankdke, The share of visitors from outside of Germany is continually climbing, in 2013 every fourth visitor came from abroad – a new peak. “In Hanover, we meet our customers from many different countries. These included investors from Central and Eastern Europe as well as large groups from North America, who we gave a better understanding of our latest technology. We took this as an opportunity to gear up our exhibited machines accordingly and presented a 724 Vario with row crop tyres for the North American market for the first time at our stand. Overall, it was an excellent mix of expert farmers and entrepreneurs, which is becoming increasingly more international,” explains Peter-Josef Paffen. Hall 9, where the AGCO Corporation with Fendt and its other brands was found at the Agritechnica, proved to be a true magnet for visitors. The Fendt stand was one of the best visited stands over all the exhibition days. “With a team of more than 150 employees from Marketing and Sales, we were there for our customers at the Agritechnica and are pleased with the high-level conversations and the great resonance our brand found with customers,” summed up Paffen.

AGCO Fendt Hosted the African Farmers’ Association

In the context of the seven-day Africa seminar of the German Farmers’ Association (DBV) under the slogan “Farmers help farmers”, seven leading representatives of farmers’ associations from six African countries visited AGCO/Fendt in Marktoberdorf, Germany, in June.  In the Fendt Forum the guests were provided with information about the company and had the opportunity to experience the Vario tractors for themselves on the test site.

“In the next years the world’s population will continue to increase rapidly and with it the need for food. To ensure that the world’s population can be fed high-tech machines like the ones from AGCO are an important prerequisite.” explains Peter-Josef Paffen, Vice President and spokesman of the AGCO/Fendt Management during his company representation of AGCO/Fendt.

One area of particular interest was the high technology of Fendt tractors and its large number of application possibilities. “The important thing is that the African farmers start to organise themselves in independent associations like the African Farmers’ Association and try to create a better policy framework. Agriculture inGermanyandEuropeserves as a good example. In producer groups where the farmers can market their products together, they get the chance to discuss the current price situation. Such platforms having a certain multiplication function are essential for agriculture mechanisation.”, says Willy Kampmann, Manager of the DBV office inBrusselsfor international relations, during the event in the Fendt Forum.

A major topic of the DBV seminar sponsored by AGCO from June 6 to 10 in Bavaria and Berlin was the importance of well organised farming families and independent trade organisations for the African continent. In lectures, discussions, case studies and while visiting farms, producer groups and machinery rings the representatives of African farmers’ associations learned about organisational, structural and market-oriented practices.

Four new “steeds” have moved into their quarters at the National Training Centre (BLZ) of the German Olympic Committee for Equestrian Sport (DOKR) in Warendorf. The tractors from the Fendt brand, however, have much more than one horsepower and will be put to work on the 26-hectare grounds for grassland, riding arena and riding hall maintenance as well as for events.

Fendt, the premium brand of the US agricultural equipment company AGCO, has been supporting the three Olympic disciplines of jumping, dressage and event riding at the German Olympic Committee for two years. Now Fendt is also the official partner of the DOKR.

The new tractors were handed over by Ludger Schröder, (AGCO Regional Sales Manager), Heinz-Georg Mors (Managing Director Agravis Technik Münsterland), Hubertus Streyl (Branch Manager Warendorf Agravis) and Dirk Fraune (AGCO Factory Representative) to the future DOKR Managing Director Dr Dennis Peiler and Facility Manager Heinz Brüggemann.

“Charity Run” with a Fendt Tractor

For several years now, Paul Taylor has been collecting money for a children’s hospice through unusual fundraising campaigns. He has raised more than 5,000 pounds (approx. 6,000 euros). Originally the plan for this year was to traverse England with a tractor, but Paul ended up driving a tractor from Marktoberdorf, Germany to England.

Paul Taylor has been raising money for three years for the children’s hospice in memory of Alice Hannah Foster, a daughter of friends, who died in the “Derian House Children’s Hospice” in 2007. In his search for sponsors and a tractor for this year’s fundraising campaign, he found support from the local AGCO dealers, Clarke & Pullman Ltd. Together with the Fendt UK Sales Headquarters and Richard Shelton, Fendt Brand Manager for the UK and Ireland, the idea finally took shape: Fendt UK provided Paul Taylor with its newest demonstration tractor, a 724 Vario, for the journey from Marktoberdorf to the hospice in England. The trip was planned together with the Fendt colleagues from Marktoberdorf. On 13 April, Paul started out on his journey, directly from the works in Marktoberdorf to Chorley near Manchester. Almost 1,500 kilometres lay ahead of him, leading him through Germany, France and finally via ferry over the English Channel to the UK. With the Fendt 724 Vario, Paul had all the technology required for a comfortable ride. A three-person team accompanied him and provided assistance, for example, in matters regarding country-specific traffic regulations.

Derian House (www.derianhouse.co.uk) is a children’s hospice that provides support for terminally ill children and their families. The hospice is open 365 days a year and the benefits are free for families. The hospice requires more than 2.85 million pounds (approx. 3.4 million euros) each year and is almost entirely supported by donations.
